3D display, show valley and bridge across it?

I have a point to point layout created, very simple, almost a straight line. I have added a baseboard and another baseboard 30cm "below" the track baseboard to represent the "bottom" of the valley; the track runs 30cm above the valley floor.
In 3D mode, how can I get the two layers to show as 30cm apart and how can I model a U or V shaped valley to only show in 3D mode?
