Custom print

Post by Jaym481 »

I would like to "print" a PDF on a single sheet of my entire track plan, so I can take it to a shop and have it printed on a plotter. I created a custom paper size that is slightly larger than the whole plan, and when I get to the print window it shows as a single page (the plan is normally 70 letter sized sheets), but when I select "save as a PDF" from the dropdown, I get an error that says "Invalid Paper size. Change custom paper size to the correct value...."

What is "the correct value?"

"Invalid Paper Size" macOS Error Message

Post by RailModeller Support »

Unfortunately this is not an application error - the error message you've described is generated by macOS.

Multiple reports of this error message on the web indicate that it is a frequent bug in macOS, however resetting the macOS printing system appears to have helped in multiple instances.

Could you try the following steps suggested by Apple and see whether this helps:

I now have a new problem. I haven't tried to print for a while, and I never actually got the custom sheet size to work the last time, so I used letter sized. I now have access to AutoCAD and a plotter, but need to create a PDF in the correct size (ArchD) for it to be of any use. I've created the ArchD default paper size, and I select it in Page Setup of RailModeller Pro. When I select Print in RM, as I only have home printers connected to my Mac, the paper size reverts to Letter, and I cannot select the custom size. If I choose any of the PDF options from the drop-down it has the Letter sized page. I've found no way to alter it, the "custom" sized (ArchD is a standard) sheet is simply not available. It may well be something simple I've missed, but so far any instructions I've found lead me to this dead end.

I'm still using MacOS 11.7.

You can select the custom PDF paper size in the Page Setup dialog:

The selected page format is subsequently available in the Print dialog, no matter what's the destination - PDF or actual printer:

Additional details are also available in the "Change a document’s paper size" section at

Hope this helps,

It isn't working. The custom paper size shows up in the print dialogue of some other applications, but doesn't in RM, even though it's selected in the Page Setup. Note the selected printer shown in the second screenshot is one of two I have, both only Letter size. There's no other printer selection available in the drop down. If I need to create a notional printer, I have no idea how to do that.
I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but I just can't figure out what.

Here's the print dialogue from Excel which shows the custom paper size.

If you have selected the paper size in the Page Setup dialog then you're good to go.
No need to select it again in the print dialog, you can just print or save to PDF.
