Advice On Creating Locomotive/Rolling Stock Shapes

I have been looking at a few of the community made layouts and am amazed at the level of detail put into them, some of which even have landscape shapes and roads as well.

I saw looking at the layout by one called "SirEier," who models German railways and was amazed of how he modelled the shapes and axles of some rolling stock even showing where the underbody truck would go.

I would like to try the same, but I am unsure of what shapes to use. It will take some experimenting to see how. Here is a screenshot I took up-close. Quite detailed isn't it?

Same here - stunned by the amazing details many users put into their layouts!
FWIW the rolling stock can be found in the NEM 102/103 H0 library in the Symbols category..

It would be great to have an easy way, built-in way of placing rolling stock on tracks in order to
  • test how many cars can fit,
  • try different train car lengths,
  • review curve radii,
  • etc.
There's an open feature request for a simulation mode - https://railmodeller.uservoice.com/foru ... ation-mode - though that would involve quite a lot of work and is unlikely to ever be part of the core app, even as a paid add-on.

But positioning cars on tracks and moving them around manually would be an option we'd be interested in to add in the near future!
Feel free to amend the feature request.

Cheers,
Jan
